There are just some days that are perfect. We had that perfect day as we left the Chesapeake Bay on our migration south.
So, we’re a sailboat, but we have a motor. The story goes, sailboats never go to windward and we’re always pointed into the wind, because we always have a destination in mind. If you’re like one of those people who always takes a different route to work, no matter how far it takes you out-of-the-way, than sailing is for you. We still have to make miles to our destination when we sail otherwise, there’s no use going, unless we turn on the iron genny, otherwise known as the engine.
We had ones of those glorious days where the iron genny helped bring up our anchor and put us in place to put the anchor down. Four and a half hours we moved 25-30 nautical miles down the bay. The only sound was the wind filling the sails. The breeze was fresh enough we didn’t have a chance to relax, but some days you want the excitement of the moment.
It’s kind of like your wedding day where time just flies and you’re so caught up in the moment the grin never leaves your face and you wish you could make time stand still.
Then there’s those times when time stands still, yet, you enjoy the peace of every day. On Fawkes we live for those moments.
I’d love to hear your moments in time.
Not quite as good as our wedding day, but a close second!
aw…now that’s sweet! =)
Your good! 🙂
Awww…love your hubby – how sweet!
Your post was a delight to read. I want to come aboard the boat!! 🙂
My favorites moments. Cuddled up on the couch at the camp, fire on, letting the day slip away while I read enjoying a perfect cup of coffee. Hubby next to me enjoying his book.
Or maybe days like this upcoming weekend when the colors of the leaves are in full bloom and we spend the day touring around in our side-by-side blown away by the beauty of nature in all it’s glory coupled by a road-side lunch. Nothing quite like it.
Either way, snagging your “perfect” moments in time (more often than not) is what it’s all about, right?!
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend!
Nancy. I love your pic of sailing wing-and-wing. No ‘smokepot’ needed there. When one is allowed a perfect moment is usually involves freedom of one type or another. Sailing- the orginal green power- bring those moments closer together for me.
Yes, the iron genny is a required item but so to is patiences and observation.
Thank you for a great post!
I took some thought to recall such a time. It was during a Boundry Waters Canoe Area trip with my Sister’s family. The lakes and forests and beautiful, the smell of pines, loons and water lapping the shore. So peaceful. Hugs….
p.s. (Your sweet DH is a keeper.)
What a sweet post. My favorite moments are sitting in a rocking chair watching the stars. We live in the country so we have lots of opportunities for star-watching. Okay, not as good as you, I’d imagine, but still pretty good.
Rocking chairs are good. And as long as the boat is away from shore we see large numbers of stars.
